Macrolite®

Macrolite, a processed mineral oxide manufactured exclusively by Kinetico, is used as a highly efficient filter media for the removal of oxidized iron and suspended matter. This ceramic media is chemically inert and is not affected by acids and bases. Tests have shown that its attrition rate is nearly zero. Depending on the class of Macrolite® used, suspended solids removal can be to below 3 microns.

M1 – Ultra Media Filtration
Our superior filtration media, M1, can remove particles to below 3 microns, while processing water at a flow rate of 10 gpm/ft2. With M1 media, the smallest mesh size within this class is 80 mesh; therefore, a fine mesh distributor system is required when using M1 media. M1 is ideal for surface water treatment, where the removal of giardia and cryptosporidium is required.

M2 – Superior Media Filtration
M2 media provides filtration to below 5 microns. It is ideal for iron and manganese removal, when coupled with a pre-oxidation prior to the filter. M2 is also used with arsenic filtration. In this application, arsenic is first co-precipitated with ferric-chloride. M2 can be operated with a service flow rate of 10 gpm/ft2, and backwashed at a flow of 6 gpm/ft2.

M9 – Specialized Gravity Media
Optimized to the operation of a gravity filtration system, Kinetico’s M9 media is a dual bed system that allows both improved flow and filtration performance compared to sand. For facilities needing to expand capacity, the incorporation of M9 into existing filter cells is a cost-effective alternative to the capital investment of additional sand filter cells. M9 can filter at flows up to 10 gpm/ft2, while maintaining outlet turbidity of less than 0.5 NTUs (based on a 5 NTU inlet).
